Argan oil is made from the nuts of the argan tree, which is found primarily in Morocco (which is why it can be pretty pricey). It has a shelf life of about a year or so. It’s non-greasy and absorbs quickly which makes it good for use on your face (it won’t clog your pores). Argan oil contains essential fatty acids which make it:
- anti-aging
- anti-inflammatory
- moisturizing
- antioxidant
When you apply it to your skin, you can:
- restore elasticity / reduce wrinkles / heal stretch marks
- moisturize very dry skin (including eczema and psoriasis)
- regulate your skin’s natural oiliness – if you have oily skin you can actually reduce this by moisturizing with argan oil!
- protect your face from acne-causing bacteria
- heal acne or chickenpox scars
- moisturize under-eye bags/circles
Applied to your hair, argan oil will:
- reduce frizz
- prevent split-ends
- restore shine (without leaving a greasy feel)
- hydrate the roots
- strengthen / increase the elasticity of the strands
You can also apply it to your cuticles to strengthen them. And eat it I guess, but I’ve never tried it and I want to save all of mine for my face anyway. 😉
Make sure the argan oil you purchase is in a dark glass, aluminum, or stainless steel bottle because it degrades in the light. Also you’ll want to limit its exposure to air, so a pump or spray nozzle is preferable to opening the bottle every time you want to use some oil. Argan oil is a fickle beastie.
And yeah, it’s expensive. That can’t really be helped, but I think that the benefits are worth the price. My cuticles have never been better after a few weeks of application, and my face is really appreciating its soothing and moisturizing properties. It’s definitely one of the best moisturizers I’ve ever used.
So that’s argan oil in a nutshell! Got any questions or comments? Leave them below!
